The GPC is proud to announce that Rolf Flake, the Cowboy Poet, has been selected as the Grand Marshall for the Gilbert Days 2008 Parade.

About Rolf Flake...

Rolf is a fourth generation Arizona Rancher.   His cowboy roots run deep in the dry Arizona soil.   His grandfather and great-grandfather (a National Cowboy Hall of Fame charter inductee) settled in the Snowflake area in 1878.   The town was named for him and Erastus Snow, a Mormon apostle, who dedicated the town.   Rolf and his wife, Jean, have been married for 54 years and have passed on the cowboy heritage to their six children, twenty six grand-children, and 16 great-grandchildren. Their son, Reed and his sons, carry on the cowboy heritage.   Rolf manages a desert ranch which is home to 300 Corriente cows and several hundred roping steers.   He is a livestock auctioneer and has sold cattle for the Navajo Indians for the past 40 years.   Rolf was presented the Gail I. Gardner Award for a Working Cowboy Poet in 200.   He produces the annual cowboy programs at Taylor, Arizona, on the Fourth of July and at the Gilbert's celebration each November.   He has produced two tapes of cowboy poetry and his recently published book, Cloud Watchers, received the Will Rogers Medallion Award and Cowboy Poetry Book of the Year Award from the Academy of Western Artists for the year 2005.   He received the American Cowboy Culture Award for Cowboy Poetry for 2005 in Lubbock, TX and the Heritage Award for the same year at the Wickenburg Gathering.   He has participated and been featured in cowboy poetry gatherings in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Colorado, Utah, and Nevada over the last twenty years.   He has participated in the Arizona Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Prescott every year since it beginning 21 years ago.
